I work as an "internal doula" in cooperation with the Bulovka Maternity Hospital, but I provide birth support in all maternity hospitals.

Why I Decided to Become a Doula

My Journey to Motherhood

My own experience with motherhood sparked my deep interest in bringing children into the world. My first birth in 2006 was a conventional, medically managed experience. Although it wasn’t dramatic, I left feeling dissatisfied with how it unfolded and felt a strong need to "learn" how to give birth better next time.

A Midwife’s Perspective

Around that time, I happened to hear a talk by midwife Milada Barešová from the Neratovice hospital on the topic of natural birth. With just a few sentences, she convinced me of my own competence to give birth—provided I had the right conditions. This completely transformed my perspective.

Natural Birth

From that moment on, I stopped seeing the term "natural birth" as something overly "alternative" in a negative sense; instead, it became a synonym for a normal birth. I am grateful that I had the opportunity to experience my subsequent births (2008, 2011) in a normal and natural way.

Training to Become a Doula

One of my main motivations for enrolling in a doula course was hearing from many friends that childbirth is a terrible experience that women should try to forget quickly. It saddened me that babies were coming into the world in such an insensitive way and that mothers often walked away with trauma. I felt that the generation of our mothers, who gave birth during the socialist era, weren't able to offer the kind of guidance we needed.

Having a Doula by My Side

I wanted to learn more about what can be done for laboring women so they don't view birth negatively. During my second birth, I had a doula present alongside my husband. I experienced firsthand how her presence gave me courage, strength, and trust in my own body. She brought a sense of calm to the room, allowing my husband to experience everything more fully without feeling that the entire weight of responsibility rested solely on him.

My Personal Experience

I have learned how vital it is for a laboring woman to feel comfortable and safe. In such a moment, she can "switch off" her mind and let her body work instinctively. Women are born with the incredible skill to give birth. Given the right conditions, they can fully use this ability and find joy in their own strength.
