I recently gave birth to my first child. As with many first time mothers, I was nervous about labor… what to expect and how to manage the pain. Being a foreigner with limited Czech and knowledge of the healthcare system added even more stress and I knew I wanted a doula to be with me during the experience. I found Silvie and from the first meeting I felt much more at ease! I appreciated her kind, warm and positive nature which made it easy to establish rapport, as well as her knowledge and experience in her field.

My husband and I met with Silvie several times in the months leading up to my delivery. We found each session to be pleasant and informative. Communication with Silvie was clear and easy, not just her high level English, but her way of explaining. She encouraged my husband to take notes during the meetings and record the exercises and movements to look back at later, which was indeed useful. She also offered to review our birth plan to make sure our Czech translation was clear. 

I went into labor overnight and Silvie arrived quickly once we contacted her. She was by my side from the moment she arrived in the delivery room. She brought a peaceful, comforting presence which allowed me to stay calm and focused. She supported me and my husband in many ways: from noticing when I would benefit from a change in position and suggesting what the next position should be, to reminding my husband to give me water, preparing a perineal compress, giving me words of encouragement, holding my hand and more. I was very happy with how my natural delivery went and Silvie’s role in it played a big part. I will especially be forever grateful for how she held my hand and supported me during the difficulties I had when delivering the placenta.

We also met with Silvie a week after the delivery and it was a big help to talk through and process my birth experience. She also gave guidance on breastfeeding, babywearing and correct position in the car seat. It was very helpful for us as new parents in the throes of life with a newborn.

I enthusiastically recommend hiring Silvie as your doula, whether you are a foreigner or not!
